Med Reminder is a medicine dispenser that can keep track of patients’ medicine schedule and send alerts if the medicine is not taken on time. With the new mobile app design, it enable caregivers to get alert on their phone and notify care receivers at the right time.
At least one medicine a day
More than 5 medicine a day
More than one prescriber
In United States 2013, among people older than 65, 89% of them take at least one medicine a day while 46% of them take more than 5 medicine a day. The percentage of those user groups are still increasing at an incredibly fast rate. Moreover, 54% of them usually see more than one prescriber at a weekly base. Since most of the people at 65 doesn't have a good memory, it becomes a problem for them to manage multiple medicine schedules and prescriptions well. So always, they ask for help from their care providers to remind them to take medicine, buy medicines for them or take them to the prescribers.
People older than 65
Vision Problem
Memory Loss
Scientific statistics shows that 55% People older than 65 always tend to not take their daily medicines on time or even forget to take them because of vision problems and memory loss. Not taking medicines can lead to some health problems. For example, the medicine has been taken will stop working, and they have to take more medicines for even longer time to make sure the disease get cured.
“Senarios are stories. They are stories about people and their activities.”
- John M. Carroll
Workflow is created to evaluete the overall information layout and functional necessity.
A wireframe of the mobile app is created based on the senario to target some key situations. There are three important design criteria extracted from the senario.
The linear protoytpe was built for usability testing in the early stage. The usability test was conducted on an iPhone 5 with two target users. The initial user reactions of this product were very promising. They liked the simple and clean look as well as the intuitive user interface. Most importantly, testers say it's very neccessary to have such a mobile app to remind their care receivers to take medicines.
Mother is taking medication four times a day.
On Reminder page: it’s good if the already taken medicines are in grey color means it’s been taken.
On User page: the User profile has a bit too much information. Keep the most necessary information there.
Pharmacy map is a nice feature.
Grandma is taking medication a few times a day.
On Reminder page: the user thinks Call is a useful and necessary feature. Besides Call, the app could to add a third button Message to deal with some special situation such as in a meeting or class.
On Reminder page: figure out how to cope with Notifications from different users.
On User page: in order to make the user profile intuitive, it’s neccessary to provide a simplified version of prescription.
Pharmacy map is a good feature. It’s better if the mobile app can send orders to pharmacy stores remotely. It can make the entire medicine ordering process easier.
The signup process for app users is designed to be extremely easy to do. It also has some simple illustrations after signing up to guide users through some of the functionalities the app has. Here is how the process works:
Care Receiver is a page where all the care recivers' account are displayed. As a new user, simply tap on the plus button to start adding a receiver. Some basic information is needed at the first step. In the second step, users need to know their care receivers's medicine schedule in order to fill the form. They can also set a alert time, which means how long after the medicine is not taken should send a alert to users. Add prescription is an optional step, but it can be useful showing the prescription to doctor when userS wants to buy medicine for their receivers. Up to 2 receivers' accounts can be added and managed in this app for free.
Todays page provides app users a quick and easy way to check care receivers' daily medicine schedule to see if they miss any. Simply swipe left or right to access any day's medicine schedule in that week. If the medicine is not taken on time, which is represented by a red circle next to the time, there's a large green button at the bottom of the page to call medicine receiver directly to remind them. The top right icon, once it's tapped, takes users to a page where all the missed medicines in that entire month will be displayed. Of course, app users can also aceess missed medicines in the earlier month by tapping on the lower left blue button.
Pharmacy store is a feature that allow the phone to search and display all the pharmacy store near by the user. The result will be shown based on their distance to the user's current location. There are two options that can be chose from when displaying all the searching results, list and map. And the list the default selection since that's more efficient according to user feedbacks gather from the usability testing stage. It also has a search function that can be used for search a specific pharmacy store that is favored by the user.
