S&V Bench is paramatrically designed bench that accomondates different body configurations.
Create a piece of furniture for College of Architecture(COA) that accomondates four differnt body positions: transient, lounge, sketch and converse.
We noticed this wide open space on 2nd floor where often times students sitting there preparing for their class. There are charging outlets available on the wall. It's also a good idea that the bench connects with the surroundings.
Find the anges that fit people the most comfortable way.
The existing structure design in COA inspired us.
The bench is designed in Solidworks using a paramatric modeling method to achieve the beautiful curve.
3 pieces of plywood (4’X8’) was CNC machined into 23 assemeling pieces. The leftover material was used for another project. While maintaining as a beautiful piece of furniture, we used plywood, plastic tubes and screws to build the most efficient structure with the lowest budget.
It turns out that students like to use this bench a lot. I always see they sit on it do work with their laptops, have conversations with friends or just simply rest. Come to Georgia Tech to take a look and sit on it worth more than a hundred pictures. The experience you'll have just by sitting on it will be unbelievable. Let me know if you are at Tech to try the bench.
